Hello friends, and welcome to my new creative outlet. It’s simple. I grew. I wanted more. And I felt like sharing.
For about ten years, I have worked as a personal stylist and personal shopper in Canada. I was a marketing guru by day in the hospitality business and a fashion guru by evenings and weekends. After moving to work as a personal stylist full-time, I realized that my creative nature was seeking broader horizons. A hedonist at large, I have always felt things and experiences through an aesthetic and sensory optic. And boy, did I struggle. I felt like I was good at everything but not enough for something. Nothing is worse for a creative soul than this internal struggle of juggling tasks and talents.
I once discovered in this fantastic book a very curious concept that gave me validation. The author explores the idea of our projects metaphorized into imaginary boxes. We enter one project or activity through one door, exit, enter another “box,” and return through another door. The door in this imaginary concept is our vantage point. When we return to one activity with our experience from another, our brain sees things differently and starts generating more ideas and solutions. It hit me so hard. It was an epiphany moment that I carried with me through the years. I realized why I was constantly struggling after pursuing this fashion solo career. I missed the food photography; I missed marketing (this was the oddest). I missed swinging from one creative outlet to another.
Years later, I discovered Athena Calderone’s Eye Swoon. I felt seen and heard. With a background in interior design, Athena became a renowned cookbook writer, lifestyle influencer, event producer, and more. Multi-hyphenated is a concept that I learned to adopt and embrace following her example. You can genuinely be more than one thing. To me, fashion has always transcended into every life experience that brings joy to the eye, the palate, and the heart. Beauty, after all, is the ultimate virtue. For as long as I can remember, I have been seeking beauty and taste in everything – from the food I was eating or preparing to some random chic strangers on the street of Paris to a thrift store find or sunlight coming through our bedroom window at the right angle.
So, what is The Taste Detective? Personally, I find that, just like in fashion, decor, travelling, cooking, and entertaining, taste is about balance, proportions, and contrast between the right ingredients. Inspired, ironically, by my own branding, I envisioned The Taste Detective as a lifestyle extension of Wardrobe Detectives. I want this to be a platform for my explorations and curiosity.
I dare to seek, explore, and experiment. And I invite you to come alongside.
